Choose Your Path of Generosity

We are excited to launch the Galt Sunshine Food Pantry & Resource Center Fundraising Campaign. We have a very lofty goal of building a larger, modern, efficient and sustainable food pantry that serves the community of Galt in many ways. The Galt Sunshine Food Pantry began in the fellowship hall of the Galt United Methodist Church but the need quickly outgrew the space. We have been working hard to lay the foundations and put everything in place:

• Established a 501(c) non-profit status
• We have the land for the building
• Galt UMC unanimously voted to sell 2 vacant lots to have seed money 
• Received a $200,000 American Rescue Plan Grant from Sacramento County
• Received a $10,000 American Rescue Plan Grant for the City of Galt 
• Received multiple individual donations, including an anonymous $10,000 gift
• Countless in-kind donations from local businesses 

Even with having the land and having raised strong funds to get things going, we still need to raise a total of $1,000,000–we are a quarter of the way to that goal and need the donations and help of many. 

THE NEED 

Galt citizens, along with the rest of the nation, experience food insecurity. We play a critical role here in meeting the needs of vulnerable groups including working families, individuals, veterans and seniors. We know that hunger is an economic issue, but it carries with it severe and long-lasting physiological, psychological, and behavioral problems if left unaddressed. In the last 5 years we have grown from serving 488 people a month to 1,948 individuals a month. The majority of the people who receive food from the Sunshine Food Pantry & Resource Center are “working poor” families and seniors. 10% of people in Galt live in poverty while 62% of students in the Galt Elementary School District come from socioeconomically disadvantaged homes. 
Definition of Working Poor: Families that live at or below the poverty level and has at least one adult that is working. 

YOUR HELP  

Even as we continue to apply for federal, state, and local grants, we are seeking your help to ensure we can continue to meet the growing need of food insecure people in our city.  We need the donations of many to build a permanent facility to provide one of the most basic needs – food – to the most vulnerable in our community – seniors, disabled, the working poor, and those unemployed. For these individuals and families, a serving of hope is a box of groceries.
